It’s that time of year that every kid loves… summertime! School is out and the learning ends. But one thing I never want my church kids to think is that learning about God and reading the Bible ends when school is out. I want them to enjoy learning about Jesus and have fun doing some summer Bible activities for kids. I want to turn their learning into excitement and realize that learning about God doesn’t end when the school bell rings. It continues every day…even into the summer.
So how do we, as parents and church leaders, help our kids soak up as much about God and the Bible while they are on summer break?
I have created these 7 summer Bible activities for kids that are hands-on experiences for them to open their Bibles, spend time in God’s creation, and learn more about His love for them.
Summer Bible Bucket
Several years ago, I developed the Summer Bible Bucket for the families and kids in my church. I took a simple sand bucket (bought in bulk from Oriental Trading) and filled it with items kids use during the summertime: VBS cd, Summer Bible Bucket List, popsicles, bubbles, jar to catch fireflies, flashlight, flip-flop post-its, and books of the Bible flashcards. I created a short printable for each item that explained how to use the item. Check out my post about the Summer Bible Bucket and see how you can download the printables for it!
Take Out Church
This resource is a pizza box filled with items that help families take church with them in the summer. Ways they can fellowship with others, praise God, thank God, pray, witness, remember Jesus, and serve Him. Some of these items are: VBS cd, M&M prayers, beach ball thanksgiving, rock painting, Flat Jesus, list of Bible apps for kids, and more. Check out the Take Out Church post on my blog for more ideas and to see how to download the printables for it!
Summer Bible Reading Bingo
This resource is a great way to help kids open their Bibles, learn how to use their Bibles, and have fun while learning about God! Kids can earn prizes each week when they Bingo! This resource is created to help kids spend time with God daily. As much fun as it might be to earn prizes, I want my church kids to develop a habit of reading their Bible each day and not rush through it. This resource includes 4 Bingo cards (2 for preschool and 2 for elementary). Download your copy of Summer Bible Reading Bingo now!
Family Faith Fun on the 4th
This resource is created to help families add a little faith into their 4th of July celebration! There are 4 components to this resource: family faith, family crafts, family activities, and family food. Each of these components has 3 activities that go with it. Some of the fun activities include: patriotic slime, homemade ice cream recipe, bike parade, and devotions! This was a hit with my church families last summer! Baking Through the Bible
During Covid last summer, I created 3 week-long themed lessons for families to do at home. These were fun and helped families stay connected to God, to each other, and to the church. Baking Through the Bible is one of the week-long themed lessons and is lots of fun! All of the lessons are centered around food and each day includes a family devotion, color of the day, Bible memory verse, Bible story recipe, art, craft, family activity, and recipe of the day. You can easily adapt the lessons to use in your Sunday school lesson with kids. Download Baking Through the Bible now for lots of fun with your church kids!
Bible Superhero Week
Another fun week-long themed lesson is Bible Superhero Week! This resource focuses on 5 Bible Superheroes: Moses, Ruth, David, Esther, and Jesus. Each day includes a family devotion, color of the day, memory verse, Bible Superhero art, Bible Superhero powers, Bible Superhero acts, and a family activity. This is a fun resource that helps kids learn about different Bible characters and gets them into God’s Word. You can easily adapt the lessons to use in your Sunday school lesson with kids. Download Bible Superhero Week now to use with your church kids!
Bible Olympics
The last of the week-long themed lessons for kids is Bible Olympics! Each day centers around a city in Israel: Jerusalem, Jericho, Bethlehem, Bethany, and Cana. Each day includes a Bible memory verse, family devotion, game, craft, family activity, and creating Olympic rings. Kids and families will have fun creating flags, tie-dying shirts, baking for others, playing Olympic games with a faith twist, and lots more! You can easily adapt the lessons to use in your Sunday school lesson with kids. Download your copy of Bible Olympics now and start having fun!
These summer Bible activities for kids will help them stay connected to God and grow closer to Him while school is out! Have fun this summer sharing and teaching your kids about God!
