Space Invaders

space invadersDo you know someone that likes to invade your personal space?  I’m sure you do.  You know…the people that sit close to you, stand close to you, get right in your face and want to talk to you.  They do just about everything up close and personal.  Every time you inch away then they get closer and closer.

Or what if this person does none of that, but invades your personal space by asking too many questions.  Questions like:  What happened? Why did you do that?  Who was that?  Do you like him?  What are you going to do about that?

I’ll go ahead and admit that sometimes I ask too many questions.  My husband would agree with me on this one.  I just like to get to know someone, so I ask lots of questions.  Sometimes I am sure that people wish I would stop asking them.

Sharing your heart can feel like an invasion of your personal space.  Your thoughts, feelings, dreams, ambitions, and even your sins, are all things maybe you don’t want to share with others. They are private so you keep them to yourselves. You keep them inside your heart, zip them tight, put a lock on them, and then throw away the key.  Nobody is getting in there to see what’s inside.  No way.  Too personal and you aren’t sharing.

Why are we afraid of sharing our heart with others and letting them see who we really are?

It all boils down to one word…TRUST.

And who can you trust?  All these people around you are hounding you with questions and getting right up in your face wanting you to share stuff you really would care not to share.  Secretly…deep inside… you are laughing because you know you’ve thrown the key to your heart away and there’s no way in.  Keep asking people, but you can’t get in!

But, there is one person who always keeps invading your personal space.  And He’s relentless!  He never gives up.  He never stops talking to you.  He is always there and He won’t leave.  He loves you too much to leave you.

That person is Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5 says:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

When you are afraid of letting others see inside to who you are, when you don’t feel like sharing your heartTrust (1) with a friend, when you are tired of trusting other people….trust Jesus.  Trust in His name.  Open your heart to Him.  Give Him the key.  Allow Him to unlock your heart so He can reside there.  Just trust Him.

I don’t know about you, but I am so glad that Jesus invades my personal space.  He is the only one who will never leave us, never hurt us, and never stop loving us.  He is our friend, our Savior, the one who loves us unconditionally.

Keep your heart open to Him and trust Him.

As the old hymn by John Sammis says:

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Will you welcome the best space invader into your heart?

My prayer is that you will.  You will not be disappointed.
