Want to get your kids into the Word this summer and stay connected to God?

Me too! That’s why I created this Summer Bible Bucket for the children in my church. I don’t want the kids to forget about God while they are taking a break from school. I want them to stay close to God and read His Word.

The Summer Bible Bucket is filled with several fun things for kids to do while on summer vacation. I filled a sand bucket with some goodies and some simple activities for your kids to stay in the Word.

Below are the items we put in our buckets:

VBS CD

I put our summer VBS music CD into the bucket as a way for them not only to learn the songs for VBS, but also as a way for them to worship God. My children always loved listening to VBS music in the car. A great time and way to praise the Lord!

Summer Bible Bucket List

The Summer Bible Bucket List focuses on three things: Bible Memorization, Bible Trivia, and Bible Writing. For Bible Memorization, I gave them 9 Bible verses to memorize (1 per week). The Bible Trivia focuses on getting to know the books of the Bible. The Bible Writing section focuses on writing out verses, prayers in the Bible, and letters to Jesus. I told the kids that if they completed their Bucket List they could bring it back at the end of the summer for a prize out of our Prize Store. A little motivation helps!

Bubble Prayers

Kids love bubbles! This is a fun way to teach the kids to pray. For each time they blow the bubbles they will do the following things: praise God, ask for forgiveness, thank God, pray for others, pray for yourself, and close by praising God. Great way to combine prayer with the fun of blowing bubbles.

Flashlight Hunt

I’ve taken kids on plenty of retreats to know how much they love to use their flashlights at night! Why not combine it with reading the Word? They can use the flashlight we included to read their Bible at night. Like going on a hunt through God’s Word in the dark.

Sidewalk Chalk Bible Verse Contest

This is a fun way for families to write out God’s Word. We included sidewalk chalk for them to use to write out a Bible verse on their driveway or road. Not only just write it out but be creative and make a cool mural. Once completed they will take a picture and post it to our Children’s Ministry Facebook page. At the end of the summer, we will judge and the winner will get a gift card to Walmart!

Flip Flop Post-It Praises

Vacations are fun! Sometimes we focus on relaxing and taking a break and leave God behind. Included in the bucket are flip flop post-it notes (I also got these at Oriental Trading). They will take these with them on vacation and use them to write out praises to God. Then they will stick them all over their beach condo, hotel room, or campsite. A great way to remember God on your vacation and praise Him for all He does.

Firefly Thanksgiving

In the bucket we included a plastic jar. This is for the kids to catch fireflies. The goal is that for every time the firefly lights up, they will thank God for something. Most kids love catching fireflies so this is a great way to combine it with thanking God.

Popsicles

I like to always include a fun treat for the kids and for the Summer Bible Bucket I included 2 popsicles. I told them that they were to freeze them, then they can eat one and give the other away. This helps them with sharing the love of Jesus with others by serving them.

I am so happy I came across your website! I am excited about the Summer Bible Bucket and Summer Bible Bingo!! These are the perfect additions to our Summer Reading Program at church where we encourage children to read more in their Bibles, or Bible storybooks, during the summer while they do not have homework! May God bless you!
